My heart was weighed down by absolute dread
For I knew the routine all too well
It seemed like a better end to be dead
Than to be denied by personnel.

My career had reached a dead end
After being let go and laid off

Trying to keep fate at a standoff.

I had forgotten I ever applied
When offered a time to interview
Experience proved I’d be denied
All of that trauma was best to eschew.
