For Christmas each year, my grandmother used to mail the grandkids each a large tin of sweets. She would make sugar cookies with Christmas tree decorations, smooth chocolate fudge, chocolate chip cookies, and pecan crescent cookies.

She taught me to get perfect round, plump cookies by using a carefully measured teaspoon of cookie dough generously spaced in the pan.

I haven’t baked sweets in almost two years.

I used to bake cookies and brownies and take them to work. My husband has diabetes and I don’t need the calories, so baking for work lets me do what I love without either of us getting into trouble.

But then I got a remote job, and I stopped having a place to take all that sugar.
