Every year (all year) I dream of summer days The adventures to come & memories sure to be made What I’m really chasing is The feeling of my childhood memories The pavement burning our feet as we Run to the pool & ice cream truck Titles of pool rats & pizza after swim meets Wrapped up in towels & falling asleep on the way home Reading on the couch with my mom Movies with my dad Sleepovers with my siblings Popsicles dripping down my wrists Trying to teach myself to tan before the school year Library books & pages inked by droplets Freckles and sunburns Every year when I dream of those days I have to remember I’ll never have them again But what a gift it is to smell sunscreen & think Of mountaire pool at eleven years old
