Storm Watch
by Caro Henry
On the edge of the world, I stand alone, the sea roars beneath me, a restless beast; its waves crash like thunder, a symphony of chaos, churning in the gray embrace of storm clouds, heavy with unspoken truths. I feel the weight of the air, thick and charged, as lightning dances, a warning in the dark. The horizon trembles, a line of fate, where sky meets water, where dreams dissolve like salt in the brine, swept away, forgotten. I gaze into the depths, seeking answers, but only the wild wind answers my call; its voice a haunting echo of my thoughts, reminding me of the fragile thread I walk, of life, of loss, of the inevitable. Each breath is a battle, each heartbeat a choice. Standing firm against the tempest’s embrace, I ponder the fleeting nature of existence, the storm, a mirror reflecting my own strife; and I am but a shadow on this cliff, waiting for the storm to break, to free me.

Well done, Caro. Your poem brings to mind a time in my younger life when I talked a friend away from the edge of a cliff overlooking a rocky shoal on the coast of Monterey, California. I love the way you convey "this too shall pass."
I stand alone, heavy with unspoken truths. my dreams swept away, forgotten. seeking truth from elsewhere, yet the truth is revealed only when I realize I already know it: an echo of my own thoughts, a mirror reflecting my strife.
yet I still wait for the storm to set me free.
I love that this symbolic storm is occurring daily: Looking in the bathroom mirror in the morning, waiting for the bus, deciding on rotisserie chicken or frozen pizza for dinner, sitting down at night trying to write.
And Although symbolic, this storm is very real.
Caro, this is brilliant.
