My friends are music on the third floor Dancing like a two-step will buy us more time before sunrise I hear them laughing as I leave and pause outside the window trying to memorize the sound of music The other part of the symphony I took with me I used to think these moments felt like the calm before the storm Until I watched my friends move like so many swaying seas and sailors and heard them call it dancing Sometimes it feels outrageous To be so damn alive in what I thought might be my graveyard To be dancing atop the waves I always thought would drown me
