Most memories of my younger years
Those that are not filled with tears
Are with the witch upon whom took
A spiritual rearing not found in a book.

Mother, mother, do you remember this?
“You’re remembering wrong, little miss.
I left you with your grandparents, I’m sure.”
I didn’t stay, I know for certain I was with her.
