I floated on a column of air,
Firm but lifeless,
Smoother than anything I’d ever experienced.
Someone whispered:
Ron, we’re going to let you go now,
And you’ll drift to the end,
Slowly downward but never touch.
You can reach out and feel the breeze if you want,
But you don’t have to.
As I wake up listening to Chopin,
My all-time fave,
Harmonies and melodies forged in heaven
Form a never-ending procession of godlike notes that lift me
Out of the abyss, now and forever.
And forever.
Until they don’t.
