I review numerous submissions each month and have gained valuable insights into the editing process over time. Often, I spend an hour editing a piece to assist writers in their growth. However, this is time-consuming, and I can't provide this service for free with every submission.
Would you be interested in an editing service I'm considering offering to writers? I frequently encounter work with great potential, but I can't always offer free editing or advice due to the time involved. I'd love to hear your thoughts, and if you're interested, I'd also appreciate your input on what you think would be a reasonable charge for such a service.
I'm thinking of adding it as a separate service where people can upload their files directly, like a Word document. I wanted to see if people were interested before I started to set it up.
Having had your editorial wisdom twice now, I think it is a service worth offering! I would base the price on some hourly rate. I would also pay for straight copy editing services as well. They are hard to find locally.
I think this is a wonderful idea and something I would consider using for sure. I'm also a skilled and experienced editor and proofreader myself with over 10 years experience. So if you need someone to help, let's talk.
I think this is a great idea! I can't offer much insight in terms of pricing as I've never used such a service, but it's definitely something I would be interested in :)
I think this is a fantastic option for Written Tales to offer emerging writers. Maybe you could offer an optional tiered editorial service with each submission call in order to reflect the depth of the review sought and accomodate a new writers budget.
Interesting, didn't think about the tier structure. What would be a fair price point? Poems are short, 1 page. Stories can be 1-5 pages. And if I offer it for Chapbooks, it can be 50-70 pages. Thank you again!
Potentially you could include the option for payment for editorial services on your submission form, with the caveat that if if no editorial service is sought, submitters will receive a standard acceptance or rejection without any editorial insight.
Maybe a ‘tier structure that includes the option of a ‘light editorial’ - a paragraph of two of suggestions on the work. I don’t like to hazard a guess at the price of this service but a fair price range might be between $5-$10
and a deep editorial review option that could be in the range of $30-$50
Thank you. What would be a fair price? A poem is a single page. But when we get into books, short stories then can span 3-20 pages, depending. And Chapbooks, even larger.
Are you interested in offering it only for submissions or are you open to other works such as novels?

As someone who just starting out on this writing thing, I would totally use such a service.

Thank you, and I am glad I could offer help. I try 😊
Great idea! I think you should go for it.

Keep me in mind if you ever need a hand Kevin 😊
Thank you and I will.
I would consider it. Your points on my first chapter were very useful.
