I think a rotating schedule, of every other publication being ope. vs themed, as that can generate more interesting content. Themes can be great, but definitely limiting at times. I’ve often struggled and usually why I read instead of submit work.

One of the reasons I gave up on submitting to lit mags and anthologies was the themes. I write what comes to my mind. And often the way the themes are described doesn't make any sense to me. Tough to get inspired by that.

Themed. I think it makes you concentrate and end up being more creative.

I can be inspired in unusual ways by a general theme , and it can make for a more cohesive read.
