They take us wading through that wan, green grass
that furs the pond bank, the mild sky so low

it touches us with its grays. Living specks flee
from our gargantuan feet, or else they glom on

to our cotton socks, unwelcome hitchhikers. Look!
A ruddy brown duck parts the pond scum, ferrying
